How To Clean Window Screens

If you’re like most people, washing your windows is fine in principle…until you get to the window screens.

What do you do with them? Can you wash the window behind without removing the screen? Could you jet wash the window through the screen? Is it enough to just wash the window inside and leave the outside? Why do window screens have to be so fiddly in the first place?!

You can absolutely leave the window screen in place and pressure wash the window behind….but you’ll end up with all kinds of gross streaks from liquified dirt that you just can’t reach without removing the window screen. Which makes you think you should’ve just done that from the beginning!

It is always worth cleaning your window screens too. They are the first point of contact between the Great Outdoors and your windows, so it stands to reason they will attract a LOT of gunk.

The easiest way to clean your window screens is to remove them individually, lay them on a towel and vacuum them using one of your vacuum’s hose attachments. Easy!

If they’re gunky and need the power of soap, you can use a bucket of soapy water and a microfiber cloth to wipe them down, before rinsing with clean water and wiping dry with a clean towel.

Then simply set them aside while you wash the window pane, before reattaching.

It is definitely extra work but your eyes will thank you for it every time you gaze through your clean window and screen.
